Buying a Chevy in March: Why This Month Can Mean Better Deals

Published on Feb 28, 2026 by Jim Glover Chevrolet Creative Team

When you think of the best time to buy a car, there are a few times of year that might spring to mind. A lot of people wait for the big end-of-year clearance events, or the huge sales of Memorial Day weekend. While these times can certainly bring great deals, March might be one of the best months to buy a Chevy vehicle. Today we’re going to run through some of the reasons that this month can mean better deals, so keep reading below to learn all about why you should consider March as the time to buy that new Chevy you’ve been thinking about.

The Tax Refund Advantage

Although you still have the entire month plus a couple of extra weeks to file your taxes, many taxpayers have already received their federal and state refunds by March. While this money is rarely unexpected, you typically don’t include this money in your monthly or annual budgeting, which makes it a great chunk of change to put towards the purchase of a new vehicle. Generally speaking — the more money you’re able to use as a down payment, the lower your monthly payments will be.

  • A larger down payment reduces your financed amount, often leading to lower monthly payments.
  • By increasing your equity in the deal, you might qualify for lower APR rates through GM Financial.
  • If nothing else, your refund can often cover the taxes, title, and licensing fees associated with your purchase.

Mid-Model Year Inventory Shift

By this time of year, new model year vehicles have been on the lot for several months – for example, we currently have over 300 2026 models in stock when this blog is being written – and it’s time for the leftovers to reach their final closeout stage. So, while you should be able to find plenty of current model year vehicles at great prices, you might also find even better deals on any of last year’s models still hanging around. To use right now as an example again, we have three 2025 Chevy vehicles available with pretty steep discounts and exciting incentives attached.

Spring Cleaning Increases Used Car Demand

While spring cleaning is most often associated with literally cleaning your house during the fresh season, it also applies to the automotive industry. As the weather begins to warm up, more people are looking for reliable transportation for their upcoming road trips or outdoor work. This increases the demand for used vehicles, which means we’re typically looking to grow our inventory.

What exactly does that mean for you? Well, if you have a vehicle that’s still in good condition that you can leverage as a trade-in, that can significantly affect the deal we’re able to offer when purchasing a new vehicle. We often need fresh used vehicles to satisfy this demand, so you can take advantage by trading in your quality vehicle!

Major Sales Initiatives

You never know exactly when Chevrolet is going to provide major sales initiatives! While we don’t know of one on the horizon for this year, in many years March is Chevy Truck Month. Last year it took place in October, so it’s unlikely to return so quickly this year. But if you’re reading this in 2027 or beyond, be sure to see if Truck Month or some other major sales initiative is taking place.
