Flat towing (also known as dinghy towing) is a convenient way to bring your adventure vehicle with you on a road trip. At Jim Glover Chevrolet, we offer custom flat tow setups for a wide range of vehicles, ensuring your rig is ready to be towed safely and efficiently behind your RV or another vehicle. From Silverados and Tahoes to Suburbans and Colorados, we’ve got the expertise to set up your tow-ready ride, so you can focus on the thrill of the journey.

What Vehicles Can Be Flat Towed?

Not all vehicles are designed for flat towing, but we specialize in the ones that are built to handle it. Whether you own a Silverado or another model, we’ve got you covered. Here are the vehicles we can set up for flat towing:

  • Silverado, Colorado, Tahoe, Suburban
  • Colorado
  • Tahoe
  • Suburban

And if you're in the market for a towable Chevy, our sister site Jim Glover Dodge offers Wrangler, Gladiator, and other models, which are also perfect for flat towing. We’ll walk you through the process and make sure you’ve got the right setup for your Chevy, too.

How does it work?

Flat towing requires proper setup for your vehicle to ensure safe and smooth travels. We cover everything from transfer case settings to the equipment needed. This includes tow plates, wiring kits, and braking systems.

Check out our video where we walk you through the different flat tow setups and configurations.

The Essentials for a Flat Tow Setup

At Jim Glover Chevrolet, we offer everything you need to safely flat tow your Silverado or other Chevy vehicle. Here's how we make sure your vehicle is tow-ready.

Tow Bars

We typically use Blue Ox tow bars like the Ascent or the Avail, both of which are known for their superior performance and ease of use. These heavy-duty bars ensure your vehicle stays secure, even behind large RVs. Want a visual? Cody has photos and video of these setups in action.

Base Plates

The foundation of any flat tow setup is the base plate, which attaches to your vehicle's frame. We use Blue Ox frame-mounted tow plates tailored to your Jeep or truck's model. For those who have upgraded to off-road bumpers, we also offer off-road bumper adapters. But, if you're looking for top-of-the-line gear, our favorite is the Maximus-3 setup for Silverados.

You can choose between the Maximus-3 setup or the traditional frame-mounted Blue Ox tow plate, depending on your preference.

If you’ve got a Ford Bronco or F-150, we can handle those as well! Head over to Glover Customs to get your flat tow setup tailored for these rigs. Even if you're a Bronco fan, we’ve got your towing needs covered!

Brake Systems

Safety is key, which is why we recommend installing the Blue Ox Patriot brake system. This supplemental brake system is designed to ensure your towed vehicle stops in sync with your tow vehicle, providing peace of mind.

Wiring Kits

Proper lighting and brake signals are crucial for safe towing, and we offer several Blue Ox wiring kits to get the job done. Whether you prefer a hard-wired taillight setup or the convenience of Bluetooth wireless taillights, we can install the perfect system for you. Personally, we love the wireless option—it’s ideal if you switch between vehicles regularly, like we do!
