The Chevrolet brand has been developing electric vehicles longer than many manufacturers, but they’ve expanded their all-electric lineup even further over the past couple of years. For example, last year they introduced the Chevy Blazer EV, an electrified version of their increasingly popular midsize crossover. When people think about towing and payload, they're usually picturing pickup trucks or full-size traditional SUVs, and certainly not EVs. But today we’re here to show you that the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV, while nowhere near as strong as these other vehicles, is just as capable of hitching a trailer or carrying some heavy loads.
Towing Capacity
If you’re looking for a vehicle for the purpose of towing, you’re probably not going to be looking at the Chevy Blazer EV. However, if you’re in the market for a midsize crossover and are interested in the EV market, you might want to consider whether or not the vehicles you’re looking at are capable of hauling. It’s always nice to have a bit of towing capacity when you need it, and even a 1,500-pound capacity is enough for a small trailer for things like jet skis or your weekend gear. And that’s exactly what most Chevy Blazer EV trim levels offer!
There are two exceptions, the first being that the SS trim level is not rated for towing at all, so if you want a vehicle capable of towing be sure not to opt for that model. The second is that the RS trim with a single motor and rear-wheel drive actually offers even more capacity, increasing up to 3,500 pounds. If you have a small boat or help your friends move a lot, this might be the model for you.
Comfort & Convenience Package
While the aforementioned RS model comes standard with its towing capabilities, in order for the other trims to achieve their 1,500-pound rating you’ll have to opt for the Comfort & Convenience Package. Among other things, this package includes some trailering provisions such as the required wiring and Hitch Guidance with Hitch View. Without this package, you won’t be able to do any towing, but the good news is that it comes with many other great features, including:
- Adjustable front seats with power lumbar
- Heated front seating
- Heated steering wheel
- Wireless phone charging
- AutoSense power liftgate
- Much more!
Payload Capacity
Whether or not you intend to haul stuff behind your Blazer EV, you want to make sure that the EV is at least heavy enough to carry you, your friends and family, plus anything you all need to bring along. That’s where payload comes into play, as this is the maximum weight a vehicle is capable of carrying in the cabin – including passengers and cargo. While exact numbers are not typically given for crossovers or sedans, you can expect to carry between roughly ~1,120 to ~1,680 lbs. depending on your trim level (LT to RS).
EV Advantages for Towing
While you might not immediately think of an electric vehicle when considering a model capable of trailering, there are actually some benefits to towing with an EV. Here are a few examples:
- Thanks to their electric motors, EVs are able to deliver torque instantaneously, making it easier to accelerate with a trailer in tow.
- Thanks to regenerative braking, your vehicle will be able to better maintain your deceleration and, in turn, reduce the amount of wear and tear on your brake components.
- Thanks to the placement of their lithium-ion batteries, EVs have a lower center of gravity, which improves stability quite a bit, especially while trailering.
Of course, the negative drawback to keep in mind is that towing is going to impact your range. Don’t expect to still be able to drive your full expected electric driving range after hauling heavy weight for a portion of it, and definitely not for the entirety.
