Since the 2022 model year, the Chevy Silverado 1500 has been offered with a 2.7L turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine as one of its powertrain options. This year, that engine has earned a unique name about which we’re pretty stoked. The engine will henceforth be called TurboMax, which is a great name for such a great engine option. Today, you can purchase a 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a TurboMax engine under its hood right here at Jim Glover Chevrolet, as we have models powered by it for sale to shoppers all throughout Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the surrounding area. The TurboMax engine of which we speak comes standard on several trim levels of the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500. If you opt for a WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST or LT Trail Boss your Silverado will come powered by this incredible engine. The 2.7L engine is capable of generating up to 310 horsepower alongside 430 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which is the best in the entire full-size, light-duty pickup truck class. It features both Active Fuel Management and Automatic Stop/Start technologies, so let’s dive into what exactly those mean.
First of all, Active Fuel Management is a technology that was developed by General Motors mostly with V6 and V8 engines in mind. It is a system that typically enables the deactivation of half of the engine’s cylinders when operating under certain conditions to improve fuel economy. Basically, it makes the engine act like a smaller one for a short period of time. For the four-cylinder TurboMax engine, this still works even though it’s already a four-cylinder engine. It allows the engine to operate like a smaller one and maximize fuel economy in certain situations, without having too much of an impact on performance.
Secondly, Automatic Stop/Start is another great technology that helps to improve fuel efficiency. The system kicks in whenever the vehicle comes to a complete stop and the driver keeps their foot on the brake pedal. What does it do when it kicks in? Well, it turns off the engine completely. Then when they remove their foot from the brake, the engine automatically turns right back on. This enables you to save fuel in situations where you might otherwise be idling for a long time, such as at stop lights or in stop-and-go traffic conditions. There are certain circumstances when the system won’t operate, but for the most part it’s a great technology that helps enhance fuel economy even further.
The TurboMax is tethered to an eight-speed automatic transmission which makes shifting gears as smooth as possible as you go, really rounding out the experience for the powertrain. It’s rugged, durable and delivers incredible performance thanks to its turbocharged capability. If you think you might be interested in a 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 of your own, with or without a TurboMax engine beneath its hood, you’ve come to the right place.
