The Chevy Colorado is a rugged midsize pickup truck that makes a great choice for an off-road vehicle, but last year Chevrolet introduced a special edition trim level that takes its capabilities to the next level. Designed specifically with off-roading in mind, the 2025 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison upgrades an already incredible truck with outstanding off-road features and technologies. What does AEV mean?
If you’re an off-road enthusiast you probably already know what AEV stands for, but just in case you’re not we’ll start there. AEV, which stands for American Expedition Vehicles, is one of the leading manufacturers of aftermarket off-road parts and vehicles. This is not the first time, but AEV and Chevy have teamed up to produce the 2025 Colorado ZR2 Bison, which means it has been equipped with some incredible AEV upgrades, including:
- Heavy-duty front bumper; featuring winch capability
- Rear bumper
- Fender flares
- 17” beadlock-capable wheels
- Front headrest embroidery
- All-weather floor liner embroidery
Multimatic Dampers
Another company that Chevy partners with is Multimatic, who produces the DSSV dampers found in many of the ZR2 trim levels. As the 2025 Colorado Bison features the ZR2 chassis, it too comes equipped with the Multimatic DSSV dampers. These incredible shocks are race-proven and provide unmatched handling and stability over all manner of rough terrain types, from rocky trails to sandy deserts.
But that’s not all, as the Colorado ZR2 Bison also comes equipped with Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers in the front and back. These are another kind of suspension system upgrade that even further enhances the truck’s ability to handle the most extreme off-road conditions. Together, these help the Bison to be considered the most off-road-capable midsize truck on the market.

These specs and features provide best-in-class underbody protection, best-in-class angling and best-in-class ground clearance. While not unique to the ZR2 Bison, it does also include the 11.3” infotainment system featuring Google built-in, Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Wi-Fi Hotspot compatibility, as well as standard Chevy Safety Assist which includes several advanced driver-assistive safety features.
What’s new for 2025?
While the ZR2 Bison isn’t new this year, the 2025 Colorado itself has received a host of upgrades and enhancements for the 2025 model year. We would be remiss to not include a look at these outstanding upgrades to the 2025 Colorado.
- For starters, the 2.7L TurboMax engine is now standard on all trims
- The Wireless Charging pad has been improved this year
- Blind Zone Steering Assist with Extended Trailer View is a new advanced safety features
- There are three brand-new exterior color options, including

- Reef Blue Metallic
- Snowdrift Metallic
- Two new packages have been added
- Work Truck Custom Package; which adds all-season blackwall tires, 18” dark finish aluminum wheels and black badging to the Work Truck trim level
- Midnight Edition Package; which is available on Trail Boss, Z71 and ZR2 and adds a host of exciting upgrades
