Chevy MyLink vs. Google Built-In: What’s New in 2025 Infotainment Systems?

Published on May 24, 2025 by Jim Glover Chevrolet Creative Team

Connectivity and the infotainment system as a whole has to be one of the most advanced aspects of modern vehicles. Each year the technology that goes into these systems continues to evolve and become more and more advanced, just like safety features. These days, infotainment is a defining feature in modern vehicles, and we can’t wait to see what comes next. But until then, let’s take a look at what’s new in 2025 infotainment systems!

Chevy has long been known for its MyLink system, offering drivers a familiar and user-friendly interface. However, as these technologies continue to advance, more and more vehicles are now integrating Google Built-In, a system designed to even better streamline connectivity and enhance functionality. We’re here to show you the differences between these two systems and highlight some new functionality you might not realize is available in modern Chevy vehicles!

What Is Chevy MyLink?

As mentioned, Chevy MyLink has been a staple in General Motors vehicles for years, providing a reliable infotainment experience tailored to Chevy’s unique system architecture. However, it’s no longer available in new Chevy vehicles, as it has been replaced by the Chevy Infotainment System which often comes with Google Built-In instead.

Older Chevy vehicles equipped with MyLink offer smartphone integration through things like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to provide seamless device syncing. The MyLink system offered intuitive menus for things like music and navigation through touchscreen controls, but also the ability to use hands-free voice commands to enhance safety on the go. While it offered a few in-vehicle apps like, again, music and navigation, the selection was quite limited.

MyLink was actually replaced in 2019 with a similar but slightly advanced system simply dubbed Chevy Infotainment System 3. This is the system found in Chevy vehicles today, however some models also offer Google Built-In as an upgrade to the system.

What Is Google Built-In?

Whereas MyLink is the past, Google Built-In is very much the present and near future of infotainment technology for the Chevy brand. It offers deeper integration with Google’s suite of services, and one huge advantage is that it doesn’t require smartphone integration to utilize different app functionalities. With Google Built-In, features like Google Maps, Assistant and Play Store are… well… built right into the vehicle’s systems natively. Here are just a few of the most notable advantages of having Google Built-In over systems without it:

  • Native Google Maps Integration
    • As mentioned, you no longer need to have a connected phone in order to benefit from Google Maps navigation. Real-time traffic updates and seamless navigation are integrated right into the vehicle, making them even easier to use.
  • Google Assistant Voice Control
    • Google’s incredibly advanced, AI-powered voice command system allows you to seamlessly control things like navigation, music, climate controls and calls without taking your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.
  • Google Play Apps
    • Thanks to the Google Play Store, you’ll have a much more expanded library of in-car apps, providing everything from messaging to streaming services.
  • Wireless Updates
    • One of the most genius features of the system is the ability to provide over-the-air updates to keep software and system performance optimized, without the need for bringing your vehicle in to get serviced.

While Google Built-In doesn’t yet come standard in every Chevy vehicle, it’s an outstanding system that should certainly have you considering a higher trim level to make sure you gain its benefits.
