2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Next-Generation V8 Engines

Published on Oct 6, 2026 by Jim Glover Chevrolet Creative Team

Back in June, Chevrolet unveiled the all-new, next-generation 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500, and we’ve been salivating over the truck ever since. This will mark the beginning of the iconic pickup truck’s fifth generation since it first hit the market all the way back in 1999. While there are plenty of exciting updates and features to highlight, especially after more details were announced earlier this month, we first wanted to focus on the biggest news available. The next-gen truck will launch with two next-generation V8 engine options!

What Powertrain Options Will Be Available for the 2027 Silverado 1500?

The current Silverado 1500, for which 2026 will be the last model year, is available with four powertrains. For 2027, the powertrain lineup will feel largely familiar, as it will be offered with four very similar if not identical powertrains. The Duramax returns exactly as it is, but the other three options have all been improved, as the TurboMax has been enhanced for 2027, and as mentioned the two V8 engine options are entering their own next generations.

Engine Horsepower Torque Max Towing Max Payload
Enhanced TurboMax 350 455 lb-ft. 9,400 lbs. 2,340 lbs.
Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel 305 395 lb-ft. 12,000 lbs. 1,870 lbs.
5.7L V8 402 428 lb-ft. 13,700 lbs. 2,170 lbs.
6.6L V8 481 501 lb-ft. 9,700 lbs. 1,510 lbs.

"We pushed these engines through an extensive testing and validation process to make sure they deliver the durability, capability, and dependability Silverado customers expect. From tough towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers put on their trucks, these next-generation V8s were engineered and proven to perform in the real world.”

All-New 5.7L and 6.6L V8 Engine Options

To refresh your memory, the current 2026 Silverado 1500 features a 5.3L V8 that generates 355 horsepower alongside 383 lb-ft. of torque as well as a 6.2L V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. For the 2027 model year, these engines are being replaced with all-new, next-generation upgrades in the form of the 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines.

As you can see from the above table, both offer quite sizable improvements to performance. The smaller option offers 47 more horsepower and 45 lb-ft. more torque, while the larger engine improves horsepower and torque by 61 and 41, respectively. You can also see related capability information in the table.

The 6.6L V8 is not just more powerful than its predecessor, though. It is, in fact, the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 engine in the half-ton gasoline and diesel pickup truck class.

What’s New in the Enhanced TurboMax Engine?

While the next-gen V8 engines are the real main event of this blog, we would be remiss if we didn’t at least touch on the enhanced TurboMax engine. It will now be tethered to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and it officially delivers best-in-class standard torque. Furthermore, you can opt for an available 34-gallon fuel tank to open up more than 900 miles of highway driving on a single, full tank of gas.
