Published on May 20, 2026 by Jim Glover Chevrolet Creative Team

For nearly three decades the Chevy Silverado 1500 has been building its reputation as one of the best and most popular light-duty pickup trucks on the market. This year the incredible full-size truck has four different engine options to choose from based on your preferences and what you’re looking to get out of your pickup. Today we thought we’d highlight those engine options – including details on each one’s fuel economy ratings, or MPG, for those of you interested in efficiency – so keep reading to learn more about the 2026 Chevy Silverado 1500.

TurboMax 2.7L Turbocharged Inline-4 Engine

The standard engine is the incredible TurboMax, which is a 2.7L turbocharged inline-four engine. Although it may seem like a small engine, the turbocharger more than makes up for it, and creates a nice blend of power and efficiency. Models equipped with this engine are a great fit as daily drivers or for weekend projects, but they can still haul quite confidently.

5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine

If you just can’t wrap your head around a pickup truck with a four-cylinder engine, then the next step up might be a great starting point for you instead. The 5.3L EcoTec3 is a V8 engine, which brings with it the traditional roar associated with such. You’ll give up a tiny bit of efficiency in exchange for that classic V8 feel and a hefty power boost.

6.2L EcoTec3 V8 Engine

If you’re looking for even more power than either of those engines offer, then you can upgrade to the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. It delivers the same benefits of the previous option, but it’s even larger and therefore delivers even more power. It loses a bit more fuel efficiency, plus it’s only available with four-wheel drive.

The only six cylinder engine on the lineup, it also balances power and efficiency, giving a big boost in torque with a smaller amount of horsepower. That makes it a great option for shoppers interested in towing capabilities, but also for those who put a lot of miles on the odometer year after year.
