2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Rumors & What to Expect

Published on Apr 14, 2025 by Jim Glover Chevrolet Creative Team

We’re now a few months into the 2025 calendar year, which means most if not all of the 2025 model year vehicles have been released across the automotive industry. It also means it’s time to start talking about the future, specifically the 2026 model year. So, have you heard any rumors about the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 yet? While information is still pretty sparse on the iconic truck’s impending future, today we’re going to go over what to expect as far as the rumors are concerned.

What’s new for 2026?

With the fourth generation of the Chevy Silverado having kicked off back in 2019, many people thought (or, perhaps, hoped) that the 2026 model year would see the introduction of an all-new generation for the iconic pickup truck. Alas, that doesn’t appear to be the case. For the most part, the 2026 iteration will be a carry-over model, perhaps receiving a few minor updates and content shifts ahead of a big redesign the following year.

That being said, the 2026 Silverado 1500 will likely offer the same four engine options you have from the current 2025 model. That means a robust 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder engine for a good blend of power and efficiency, the iconic 5.3L and 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engines that deliver incredible power and capabilities and, of course, the best of all worlds — the 3.0L Duramax Diesel.

As we said, only minor updates are likely to come for 2026. While Chevy hasn’t yet announced anything for sure, a lot of speculation leads us to believe any improvements will likely have to do with the infotainment system, safety features and other technological advancements.

What’s coming for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

But that likely means that the 2027 model year will be the year that the Chevy Silverado 1500 finally turns the page into that fifth generation. It’s still incredibly early, the 2027 model year is quite a ways away, but we wanted to corral all of the information we could gather into one place so you can get some idea of what the next-gen Silverado will look like.

  • The next-generation Silverado 1500 will likely be built on a new platform.
    • Rumor has it currently that the 2027 Silverado will be the first model to ride on General Motors new T1-2 platform, which will be an evolution of its current T1 platform, on which the current generation is built. The platform will likely offer improved efficiency and performance along with new cutting-edge technologies.
  • Perhaps the Silverado 1500 will introduce a next-generation small-block engine.
    • It was all the way back in January of 2023 that General Motors announced it would be producing a sixth generation version of its iconic small-block engine. The automaker invested $854 million into its manufacturing plants to design the engine, which will likely see improved performance and lower emissions.
  • Exterior and interior design overhauls are sure to accompany the generational shift.
    • Some spy photos have already surfaced showing a much more modern and sportier aesthetic for the next-gen Silverado, including changes like vertical LED lighting, a refined grille, quat-tipped exhaust and more.
    • The cabin will of course receive plenty of updates as the cockpit of any vehicle is constantly being improved in today’s market. Cutting-edge upgrades to the different aspects of technology in the vehicle are sure to come.

Everything is still just speculation at this point in time. As information becomes confirmed or new details are released, we’ll be sure to fill you in right here on the Jim Glover Chevrolet blog. Feel free to get in touch with us if you have any questions, we look forward to hearing from you!
